Maddy Rifka Brunt

Maddy (She/Her) is a fish/wildlife biologist, wildland firefighter, and conservation storyteller based in northern California. Her work as a biologist takes her into the backcountry to track California condors and snorkel in search of native fish populations. Maddy is both a photographer and filmmaker, and has documented topics such as wildfire impacts, California condor reintroduction, river restoration, mountain lion behavior, and the environmental impact of illegal cannabis cultivation by drug cartels. She has worked on projects for publications such as National Geographic, Audubon, the BBC, and is currently working as an Osher Fellow for the California Academy of Sciences on a long term project focusing on wildlife and wildfire. Above all else, Maddy hopes to tell stories that inspire change.
