Emma Balunek

Emma’s (She/Her) goal is to build connections between people and wildlife using science communication tools including photography and storytelling. Her objective is to encourage more people to care about the Earth and, in turn, contribute to a more sustainable future for humans, wildlife, and natural ecosystems. She is a current master’s student at the University of Nebraska studying the coyote and badger hunting relationship in prairie dog colonies in grasslands across the west. This project allows her to combine both of her interests, photography and wildlife conservation, and work on a multidimensional project. Her plan is to contribute new behavioral insights about this relationship while also communicating the story to a diverse audience through high-quality photos and video; ultimately shining a light on the often-overlooked grasslands.
