Ana Sapp (she/her) is a graduate student working in the lab of Dr. Ivana Mali at North Carolina State University, where her research focuses on heavy metals associated with freshwater turtles in New Mexico and North Carolina. Most of her photography places reptiles and amphibians in the spotlight, although she also explores other taxa and portrait photography. Her background as a visual artist allows her to use lighting and unique compositions to capture animals deemed “creepy” in unique and exciting ways. Ana’s graduate research provides the perfect opportunity for her to photograph the scientific process as she works, thus raising public awareness of conservation issues often overlooked in the media. Ana is thrilled to be a part of the Girls Who Click community, which supports young women in male-dominated scientific fields such as herpetology.
