Marcus Westberg is an award-winning conservation and travel photographer and writer, with a background in environmental science. Most of his work focuses on various aspects of human-environment interaction, primarily in sub-Saharan Africa and his native Sweden.
Marcus splits his time in the field between assignment work for publications and non-profit organizations. His images have been awarded in numerous competitions, including the World Photography Awards, Wildlife Photographer of the Year, European Wildlife Photographer of the Year, the Siena International Photo Awards and Nordic Nature Photographer of the Year. He is a regular contributor to the New York Times, and his work has been featured in publications such as the Guardian, bioGraphic, BBC Wildlife Magazine, GEO, Wanderlust, Africa Geographic and the Washington Post. His NGO clients include African Parks, WWF, the Game Rangers of Africa Association, Gorilla Doctors and Save the Rhino Trust.
Marcus is an Associate Fellow of the International League of Conservation Photographers, a Sony Imaging Ambassador and an Advisory Board member of Prints For Wildlife. He has contributed images to numerous books, including the Remembering Wildlife series and The Last Elephants. A big believer in compassion, kindness and inclusivity, Marcus tries to approach any topic pragmatically and with a willingness to hear all sides. He currently lives in Portugal with his wife and two rescue dogs.
